Lawn Tractor Reviews
Delivering an accurate lawn tractor review should be easy. Hundreds upon hundreds of sites claim to provide you with accurate comparisons between the various brands of lawn tractors out in the marketplace. Some don't deliver on this task. Here you will find reviews of several lawn tractors that we hope will serve you well.
The John Deere LX277
John Deere is renowned for their excellence in lawn tractors and the feedback for this model has been consistently positive. Amongst the reasons for high praise for this particular model is the fact that it is easy to use, extremely durable and highly functional with several attachments giving it versatility. It is fortunate that it is so packed with features as it comes with a large ticket price. Fans would still argue that the LX277 is money well spent.
The LX line is the best in the John Deere range. With a 17 Hp V-twin Kawasaki engine this lawn tractor can handle almost anything. The engine crank case is pressurized ensuring all the internal parts are fully lubricated so that there is no unnecessary wear. There is also a two-pedal automatic transmission system (one for the forwards direction and the other for reversing) so there is no need to stop and change gears this is done automatically. But note it does NOT cut in reverse.
In terms of the decking on the JD it comes with a 42" convertible deck as standard (by convertible this means that it can be changed depending on whether you want to use it for mulching, bagging or side-discharging). Other features included are cruise control, cup holder, an adjustable seat (high-back), front lights and a 2 year warranty. If you decide to invest in the John Deere LX277 lawn tractor you will not get much change from $5000 but if you have a lawn that needs to be tended on a regular basis then it is money well spent.
Kubota T1770
The reason the Kubota T1770 is reviewed here is that the performance of this lawn tractor is identical to the John Deere LX277 but comes in at a more reasonable price. In fact, it is one of the lowest priced premium tractors in the marketplace today. Packed with innovative features normally found on larger tractors, the T1770 is quick and versatile.
Like the John Deere LX277, it has a 17HP V-twin Kawasaki engine to ensure it is never under powered in any situation. Its work cycle is longer than the Deere with a third more fuel capacity. A capacious 44" deck with wide contoured blades provides a superb quality cut. From the drivers seat you can adjust the cutting height, speed, deck height and disposal type so you are in complete comfort while you are finishing the job.
The complete lawn utility vehicle it can act as a snow-blower in winter and make sure that the lawn can always be tended to. The patented, high quality materials that make up the T1770 and the 2 year manufacturers warranty assures you that the job will always be painless and your machine will never get jaded. Priced at approximately $4000 it is sensational value and all the lawn tractor you will ever need.
Scotts S1742
Having had received numerous reviews highlighting its reliability, its low maintenance costs, durability and low cost the Scotts S1742 lawn tractor packs a lot of punch in the lawn tractor market but without the hefty price tag.
A painted and galvanized steel exterior prevents rusting even in the most adverse of weather conditions. The 17HP Briggs & Stratton commercial engine, controlled by a 5-speed manual transmission, is quiet yet very powerful so performance is not compromised. A good, tight turning circle due to a shorter deck means the S1742 is suitable even on small acreage. In terms of its safety, the Scotts has all the same features as the other brands. Starting at the rock bottom price of $1500, the Scotts S1742 lawn tractor is worth investigating for novice lawn keepers.
Cub Cadet 2544
The Cub Cadet 2544 lawn tractor is not as small as its name may suggest. A 20HP Kohler engine means that it is the fastest and most powerful lawn tractor reviewed here. A 28" turning radius also means it is one of the more nimble tractors available to the residential consumer. A 44" convertible deck with triple blade and multiple cutting heights mean that not only do you get one of the cleanest cuts but you can vary the length of the cut as desired.
Priced at a modest $3000 it is more lawn tractor than the average garden keeper will ever need but lacks the extra features that the John Deere LX277 and the Kubota T1770 promise.
Toro XL440H
Part of the rugged XL Series produced by Toro, the XL440H is a lawn tractor that is rugged and dependable. Gutsy under the hood with 17HP Briggs and Stratton Engine, it has pressurized lubrication that ensures a longer than average life cycle. The 44" blade gives it a wide cutting scope that you demand of a lawn tractor of this caliber.
The Toro XL440 can cope with any situation with the KeyChoiceTM Reverse system allowing all functions to be carried out in reverse gear. In all weathers and conditions it is a top performer as it is equally effective in turbulent hilly areas as it is in a regular garden environment.
Priced competitively at $3,300 it is as packed full of features such as a snow plough blade, a windbreaker, a sun shade, a rear vacuum bagger and dump cart. The Toro XL440H lawn tractor over delivers in every way.
