The Villager Nursery is owned by 3 botanists with degrees in the biological sciences including Ecology, Plant Physiology, Molecular Biology and Agriculture.
Since 1975 we’ve been experimenting in our own mountain gardens and landscapes and living vicariously through the experiences of thousands and thousands of clients and friends throughout the Sierras.
We’re happy to admit that, in the nursery and demonstration gardens, through trials and tests, we’ve killed truck-loads of "hardy plants" so our clients won’t have to.
Our staff are all avid and passionate mt. gardeners who want nothing more than to see every client succeed on her first try.
The nursery specializes in "Mountain Hardy" plants that will thrive through winter cold and summer frost, deep, wet, heavy snow, numerous herbivores, poor "soil", dry air, drought summers and intense mountain sun.
Our gift shop strives to offer unique pottery, art and fun for gardeners.
The landscape crew is busy from snow-melt through snow-fall and the owners are frequently on "home visit consultations".
We've been helping mountain gardeners enjoy winter indoors since 1975 with lights, hydroponics, nutrients, irrigation, soils and all sorts of indoor gardening supplies.
The Villager has been promoting organic gardening for decades and uses home-made compost tea to fertilize the nursery and demonstration gardens.
